In an area that was once covered in lovely wild lupine, Larkspur is found. The wife of Charles Wright, a major developer in the late 19th century, mistakenly identified the lupine as larkspur, giving the city its name. The little city of Larkspur has retained the enchantment found by Wright’s wife and remains a top destination for both incoming residents and tourists.
Between its twin city Corte Madera, Kentfield, and Greenbrae, Larkspur is within perfect commuting distance to San Francisco and the neighboring towns. It’s also located between Mt. Tamalpais and the San Francisco Bay, with wooded retreats to satisfy any homeowners’ dreams.
The city has not changed much in the last 120 years and continues to resist the cookie cutter development of the 21st century. Downtown Larkspur is included on the National Register of Historic Places and the eclectic collection of homes gives the city its unique feel. Abundant activities exist here and there is truly something for everyone!
Downtown boasts a fantastic collection of cafes, boutiques, and top notch restaurants to enjoy. The Escalle Winery and picturesque Victorians are not to be missed. With close proximity to both the bay and Mt. Tam, outdoor enthusiasts are sure to get every opportunity to enjoy what they love. Hiking trails and good public schools draw people from the city here. With so much to offer, Larkspur is truly a diamond among the gems of Marin County.
