Incorporated in 1907, San Anselmo is a town full of charm. This small town is full of older homes designed in a variety of architectural styles. The tree-lined streets shout “Small Town U.S.A.” The classic downtown area boasts numerous small restaurants and shops while San Anselmo Avenue provides the town’s main shopping locations. More than 150 antique dealers are located within a half-mile of downtown San Anselmo, earning the nickname “Antique Capital of Northern California.”
Even those just passing through San Anselmo take notice of the beautiful stone castle overlooking the city. The most famous landmark in town, this castle was home to the San Francisco Theological Seminary. Founded in 1892, the seminary trained clergy of the Presbyterian faith. The classic looking castle, covered in ivy and situated above the city, lend a fairy tale feel to the area.
13,000 residents call San Anselmo home, creating a sense of community between even the most diverse populations. A very successful community volunteer program is run by local residents and community organizations have a strong following. Good schools, city parks and amenities such as the library are popular with the residents.
